Published: Tue, 13 May 2014
A fortnightly drop-in hub, manned by 14 organisations across Derry/Londonderry, has opened its doors in our offices in Waterloo Place.
The Making Moves hub brings together a wide range of services from a number of public and voluntary organisations situated under one roof fortnightly to assist those who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless by providing them with practical immediate support and advice.
Sessions will be held fortnightly at our Waterloo Place Office offering advice, support and information on a range of topics such as, welfare and benefits, housing, health and wellbeing, employment, education, floating support, emergency provisions and preventing homelessness. Individuals can be referred to Making Moves by any member organisation or alternatively they can drop into any session.
Taking part in the pilot project are the Housing Executive, Simon Community Northern Ireland, First Housing Aid and Support Services, North West Regional College, Bogside and Brandywell Health Forum, Citizens Advice Bureau, Currynierin Community Association, Foyle Women’s Aid, Old Library Trust, Christians Against Poverty, Careers Service, Time 2 Choose, Methodist City Mission and Jobs & Benefits Office - DEL
Our Housing Services Manager for West, Eddie Doherty said, “We are delighted to be a partner organisation in the Making Moves project and as such have agreed to facilitate a fortnightly hub at our offices for those who are most in need in the city. This project aims to give practical, relevant and immediate face-to-face support and advice at one location.”
The next hub will be held on Friday May 16th and every fortnight afterwards. It takes place from 1pm-3pm.
