What we do
One of our main functions is the provision of a housing and planning service. This work requires people skilled in administration and communicating with the public. There are also opportunities in research, planning, accounting and developing private initiatives.
We employ technical staff such as architects, building surveyors, quantity surveyors, civil, mechanical and electrical engineers and computer technicians. We also employ staff with qualifications in accountancy, law, personnel management, public relations and administration.
We also have a Direct Labour Unit which employs a number of Groundspersons, Electricians, Joiners and Drivers.

I started with Northern Ireland Housing Executive in September 2016 as a Trainee HR Officer. The training programme has been fantastic for my personal development and enabling me to increase my confidence as it gives me the opportunity to work and gain experience in all the different areas of Human Resources including Learning and Development, Attendance Management, Employee Relations, Resourcing and Policy. I have also had the opportunity to work on different projects outside of the Human Resources function which has allowed me to understand the organisation better and widen my knowledge in different areas as well as building relationships with key stakeholders. Additionally, the organisation pays for me to attend the University of Ulster to complete a Diploma in Human Resource Management which is a highly recognised qualification within HR. I have learnt an incredible amount since I started in the Housing Executive and look forward to the continuous learning the training programme will bring and the opportunities it will provide to further my career.
In 2013 I applied for an IT Apprenticeship programme which was being offered by Belfast Metropolitan College and a host of local companies, including the Housing Executive. I applied and was offered an IT Apprentice role within the software development team in the IT Department.
The programme offered me the opportunity to work and learn alongside IT professionals in an operational environment, whilst continuing to attend College where I also gained several Microsoft qualifications.
Upon graduating in 2015 I was promoted to the position of IT Officer at the Housing Executive and obtained an ICT Professional Competence Level 3 Diploma from Belfast Metropolitan College. In 2016 I was successful in applying for the position of Trainee ICT Analyst and I am now engaged in an intensive 18 month training programme which covers various strands of the IT industry.
The experience I have gained from the apprenticeship, coupled with the support of my team and the professional and knowledgeable environment created by my IT colleagues has considerably helped me progress and aided my personal development.
I find the work to be both challenging and rewarding, as my team and I strive to build the best web applications and IT solutions for our customers. I am proud of the systems we develop and to support our business colleagues with the work they do throughout the organisation.
The highlight of my career thus far in the Organisation was when the team in which I work, Business Solutions and Services, was awarded Team of the Year during the 2017 annual Staff Awards, in recognition of the valuable work that we do for the Housing Executive.
I started working for the Housing Executive in 2000 as a temporary Clerical Officer in the Recruitment Services department. Over the next fifteen years I progressed to the position of Senior Admin Officer within Central Human Resources and following the launch of the HR Trainee Programme in 2015, I was successful in securing a position as one of the organisations HR Trainee Officers. For me, the best part of becoming a trainee has been the opportunity to work as part of an award winning HR Team and to develop professional skills through a fully supported programme of on the job learning combined with academic study. I look forward to an exciting professional future in the Housing Executive.
After Graduating with BSc (Hons) Product Design from University of Glamorgan I was working as Technical Advisor for a window company when I saw the Housing Executive Graduate Programme advertised, I applied as I thought it would be a fantastic career opportunity. I was successful and commenced the Graduate Trainee Programme in 2010 where I completed various placements whilst studying for a diploma in Housing Management at the University of Ulster.
I now have a permanent post within the Transformation department and as part of our ‘Journey to Excellence’, have been working collectively with operational staff and key partners to fundamentally transform our frontline Housing Services. This has been a very rewarding role as I have been able to see improved customer services and staff having a better job to do as a result.
My work is demanding yet satisfying and the organisation’s training and development is always there to support my development and has allowed me to develop further.
