A brand new pitched roof is emerging on top of Suffolk Road Flats in Lenadoon, as part of a major investment by the Housing Executive.
Initially built with a flat roof, the apartment complex is benefitting from a new, light weight, low maintenance roof, while new fascia and soffits will transform the look of the building from the outside.
Over £333,000 is being spent on the work, which should be completed by late Spring.
Housing Executive Glen Area Patch Manager Alison Devenney, based at the Dairy Farm Centre, said; “We’re committed to making sure our tenants live in comfort and this upgrade work is an indication of this.
“We’re making a very considerable investment in this new roof and work will take place over a number of months.
“When it’s finished later in the Spring, the building itself will look completely different and more aesthetically pleasing, while the actual fabric of the structure will find greater protection from the elements.
“This work forms part of the Upper Lenadoon External Cyclical Maintenance Programme which will commence shortly and will represent a total investment of around £1million in the area this year.”
Paddy O’Donnell from the Lenadoon Community Forum, said; “We commend the Housing Executive for investing in a new pitched roof for Suffolk Flats.
“It’s great to see the work underway and local residents have been kept informed during the process.
“The new roof will provide a very positive facelift for the building – the structure itself is very impressive and we look forward to even more improvements to come from the Housing Executive in the area this year.”
